Is it true that starting in 2012 the government will start to ban the sale of inefficient incandescent and halogen bulbs?
Yes. The Federal Government passed the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, which states that general purpose light bulbs must increase efficiency by at least 25%. To achieve these higher energy efficiency level mandates, starting in 2012 lighting manufacturers will need to utilize higher efficiency technology like LED.
Why should I choose LED over CFL?
Both offer significant energy savings and longer life vs. current incandescent and halogen light sources. LED lamps are 100% eco-friendly whereas CFLs still contain harmful substances (primarily mercury-Hg). In addition, LEDs can last over 50,000 hours, are instant-on, have better dimmer compatibility and produces a much brighter and cleaner (no UV) light than the CFL alternative.
